DEXTER NEW BLOOD (ENGLISH)

Finally, I've seen the final and closing episode of this new season of "Dexter final blood" and I have some mixed feelings about how they've decided to end the story of one of the most interesting characters, in my opinion, since the boom of TV series, so, for me, since the post-Lost period.

Personally, I have loved all the seasons of Dexter, but my favorites are the first 4; in fact, from the fifth season on, the stories have always repeated themselves in the same way with a pattern too linear and predictable.

All this up to the first finale, that of season 8, unplanned and improvised. Many fans of the show felt the need for this new season specially to give their character a worthy ending.

The question I now have is if this new ending was worthy?

Without making spoilers, I'll say first that the strength of this season is to resume the human story of Dexter, who now is called Jim, ten years after the Miami events, and to do so in an original way, therefore, not following the patterns of the last seasons of the original show.

I liked to see a visibly older Dexter/Jim (in short, actors age too), who is no longer the infallible man of the Miami days and who, perhaps by trying to keep his dark side hidden under the ashes, has also weakened in the way he treats others and in always being one step ahead of everyone.

There are interesting new characters and a great return (Dexter's son Harrison, now a teenager), which on the one hand make the story interesting and on the other make a lot of reminders specially to seasons 2 and 4, which then in my opinion together with the first are the three best ones.

These are the pluses of this new season, but now reviewing the minuses I must surely say that seeing this rusty Dexter who, after many years, can no longer hold and control his dark side and who makes mistakes has not made me crazy. In short, I liked the show mainly for the characteristics of the protagonist, able to be almost infallible and get out (almost always) of the most critical situations that were proposed in each season finale.

Well, this character is missing here in Dexter New Blood.

Another thing I didn't like was how they badly exploited what could have been another great comeback (whose name I won't mention). In short, there has been made a real "disrespect" to the old fans of the show, since it is made to anticipate on two occasions a mythical meeting between Dexter and this old character that never happens.

And finally, to close the actual ending.

For me it could not end differently, I'm sorry to say this, but Dexter's end could only be the one that took place in this last episode; not ending like this, would have distorted the character, making him go completely to the dark side, but it is also true that television series in recent years have accustomed us to have open-ended endings, so I wonder: was there really a need to write with this New Blood the end? Couldn't we leave a "pending" ending as it was already done? To this question I do not know an answer, I only know that I was left with a bitter taste in my mouth, as always happens when you say goodbye to a beloved character, at this point, forever.

Forever? ... I hope so, unfortunately, I read that this series has been the most successful in the history of "Showtime", the producer, and therefore my fear is that there will be more or maybe spin-offs with Harrison as the main character. Maybe yes or maybe no, I hope in the second.

And did you guys like it? What did you think of the season and its ending?

PS: to close two trivia:

1- the sentences that are pronounced at the end are the same that Dexter says while he is committing his first murder in the first episode of the first season.

2- a little gem: have you noticed that as the episodes of "New Blood" progress, the writing in the theme song "Dexter New Blood" becomes more and more full of blood?

DEADLY PREY GALLERY, or how to create original posters

Today I want to dedicate the coffee break to talk about art related to cinema. The idea came to me listening, as every week, the episode of Cinefact's PODCAST ( https://www.cinefacts.it/ ), if ever someone from the Cinefact staff will come on this page I thank you for the 2/3 hours a week of cinema and relaxed chats that you give me every time. In the episode number 152, in fact, they talked about the story behind a series of movie posters made in Ghana by local artists to advertise films that were shown by "mobile cinemas" in the 80s and 90s and that today have become famous in the world of film lovers thanks to the interest of a Chicago art dealer who has made them known to the world and has also started to sell them. You can find some of these posters by searching online or on Instagram for "Deadly Prey Gallery". The great thing about these posters is that they are very particular and remind in a not too authentic way the movie they advertise. The ima...
